My hope in writing Vantage Point: Five Perspectives to Live a Better Story, was to encourage and inspire readers to reflect, and apply these perspectives, take action and pursue a life of meaning and purpose.
When I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a garbage man. I remember as a kid running out to the street when I heard the truck in the neighbourhood. I thought, “How cool it would be to ride around on the back of a truck all day.” (I tended to be a neat freak even at a young age, so maybe that was part of the attraction too, who knows.)
That dream never materialized, and honestly, it’s just as well. Today, the waste collection operators rarely leave the cab of the truck…what a bore.
I read a recent report announcing that the suicide rate in the US reached an all-time high last year. I don’t know the Canadian numbers, but any way you slice it, this is a sad reality.
Almost every age group saw an increase with a variety of reasons being offered as to why…including access to firearms, increases in reports of depression and limited mental health resources.
