When I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a garbage man. I remember as a kid running out to the street when I heard the truck in the neighbourhood. I thought, “How cool it would be to ride around on the back of a truck all day.” (I tended to be a neat freak even at a young age, so maybe that was part of the attraction too, who knows.)
That dream never materialized, and honestly, it’s just as well. Today, the waste collection operators rarely leave the cab of the truck…what a bore.
By my teens I wanted to be a pro football player. While playing in high school, I carried a ball with me a lot; I dreamed of the pros and I ate so much food trying to put on weight.
But that dream never materialized either; and I think my parents must have appreciated the lower food costs when I went back to a normal diet.
But the fact is, if you ask almost any kid, what they want to be when they grow up, they will have an answer. They don’t even have to think about it. It’s as if they were just waiting the for the question and relieved to finally say it out loud.
But somewhere along the way, many of those dreams fade. And that’s fair. Some dreams were simply that…dreams. Not realistic, and maybe not relevant to who that person truly was or was going to become.
But you have to love the enthusiasm kids have about their futures, and their creativity to think way outside of the box, like anything is possible…whether you wanted to be an astronaut, ballerina or world explorer.
However, throughout my career I have met people of all ages, still asking themselves the same question.
What do I want to be when I grow up?
And still searching for answers.
I think that one of life’s greatest tragedies is living it without knowing why.
So I wrote a book that I hope not only inspires the reader to think about their life in a fresh way, but to take action towards creating the life they are designed for.
If you’re still asking some of life’s biggest questions…questions like
Who am I?
Who do I want to be?
What am I here to accomplish in my life?
Then Vantage Point can help.
Check it out. I’d love to hear what you think and how it helped.
